Letter to Parents 9th January 2026

January 9th 2026

Dear Parents and students

A belated but no less heartfelt Happy New Year! We end the week having fared very well weatherwise in comparison to so many other parts of the country. I am always watchful around weather events, which may affect us, as any closure during a school day is potentially hazardous for school transport on account of the hilliness of the immediate area.

We are now running weekly Meet the SENDCO sessions on Mondays during the morning. If you have any questions or concerns about SEND provision and how it relates to your child, you will be able to make an appointment to meet a member of our SENDCO team. If you would like to take this opportunity, please email send@brockhill.kent.sch.uk by the end of Thursday of the previous week, so we can get back to you with a suitable time. This is a new initiative for us, so please bear with us if demand is high.

If you are not currently claiming Free School Meals and believe you may be eligible for these, please check and apply HERE

Through the generous donations of so many families we generally hold a healthy stock of laundered pre-loved school uniform items but are particularly short of school trousers and skirts at the moment. If you do have any items of uniform your daughter or son has outgrown, we would be delighted to receive these at our Mansion main reception or in the Student Office, as they may be of help to another student. We can then launder and have these available here at school on parental request for a very modest voluntary donation.

We welcomed students back to school on Monday morning and have held assemblies for students in all Year Groups to mark the New Year stressing the importance of doing our personal best, as well as kindness and how we treat each other in our words and actions. Students have also reflected on their 2025 achievements and identified goals for 2026 in today’s Family Friday session. Family Friday – New Year 2026

Next week, Years 11 & 13 will sit mini Walking Talking (teachers help) Mock Examinations in class. For Year 11 this will be in selected subjects and for Year 13 this will be in all subjects. Then, during the week beginning, Monday, January 19th students will sit Pre Public (teachers don’t help) examinations to continue their preparations for Public Examinations in the summer.

Of course, we share these with students as well, but please do gauge how aware they are of this.

Just prior to the holiday we sent letters of commendation to the parents of 586 students for their consistent submission of personal best class and homework assignments and would love to do the same again in February. We always want to recognise all our students just for doing their personal best and digging in when the learning gets tough!

We have issued homework booklets to all students in all Year Groups for this half-term, and we hope this better enables our parents to oversee their children’s Homework assignments and understand how Homework relates to learning that students undertake in school.

Our aim is also to give students greater ownership and responsibility for their Homework and for this to align more and more fully with what they learn in class. Students may however need parental support with checking they pack their booklet along with their ILF each day.

Thank you as ever!

Yours sincerely,

Charles Joseph

Principal
