Letter to Parents 17th May 2024

May 17th 2024

Dear Parents and students

Thank you for all your support over this past week.

We have undertaken a number of activities in Daily Tutor time with students this week to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week.

Mental Health Awareness Week                                Family Friday You HQ

It has been absolutely wonderful for the Academy Directors to meet so many Year 8 parents for conversations about Learning Pathways.

We were proud and privileged to host actress Pam Ferris (Darling Buds of May, Call the Midwife, Matilda, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) in school on Wednesday to present us with our prestigious Arts Mark Platinum Award. This award is in recognition of the exceptional commitment to the arts - only 4% of schools nationally have achieved the Platinum status. Ms Ferris enjoyed Music, Drama and Dance performances and viewed an art and photography exhibition with our students. She took part in a student Q&A session which was recorded by Brockhill Radio and will be available to listen to soon. The students in the Phoenix Centre were buzzing from the visit and we are delighted that Ms Ferris has offered to host a drama workshop with our students in the near future.

The students have excelled this week earning 2035 Excellent Points and Public Examinations are now fully underway. Students impress with their commitment and hard work, with many attending last minute revision sessions from 7am.

We are currently seeking nominations from teachers for awards to recognise students, who have consistently submitted personal best class and homework assignments during this half-term. As ever, consistent does not mean perfect. Some students will doubtless receive Excellent Effort Points and Homework reminder texts during the same week.

We are varying our timetable daily, in order to ensure we provide students in Years 11 & 13 with the best possible support in advance of their next examinations by having the ‘right’ teacher for the ‘right’ subject in class with them. I cannot emphasise enough the importance of students maintaining the highest high levels of attendance to all their lessons throughout the period of Public Examinations.

Folkestone New Music have let us know that Thomas Adès, a renowned classical musician will be performing locally next Friday. Performances are free to under 25s and there are a range of concessionary tickets available. http://www.tickettailor.com/events/folkestonenewmusic/1173525

Finally, please ask your child to choose a book from our latest digital library. Reading for 20 minutes a day impacts on student attainment across all their subjects.

Have a lovely weekend.

Yours sincerely,
