Letter to Parents 14th November 2025

November 14th 2025

Dear Parents and Students

Thank you for all your support this week.

On Wednesday morning Ms Humphries delivered the school’s Remembrance reading and led our minute’s silence at 11am.

Remembrance Sunday had seen Brockhill represented by students and staff at a number of services throughout the area with our Years 12 and 13 Dance students performing at The War Memorial at the Grove in Hythe. I am so proud of our students for their part in commemorating such important national events. Elsewhere, Year 11 students have visited the National Gallery with our Year 8 netballers and Year 10 footballers representing the school in Away fixtures.

I am grateful for your contributions to the School Voluntary Fund following my appeals. We have set the requested amount at £2 per month by standing order for each family to donate to enable all or nearly all families to respond. We are doing well but still have a long way to go.

Bank: Lloyds TSB                                               Account Name: Brockhill Park Performing Arts Voluntary Fund

Sort Code: 30-93-34                                          Account No: 02941356

This fund will allow us to continue to offer access to school trips, clubs and uniform for all.

Thank you also for taking the time to fill in our surveys at or following the Parent Subject Consultations (Years 10 – 13). We were touched by the many kind words and are contacting anyone who noted a concern or left a suggestion.

Our Sixth Form Open Evening was a great success. It was such a pleasure to welcome so many of our Year 11 parents to Brockhill as we start a collective conversation about next steps after GCSE. It was a particularly special evening for me, as I watched my Vice Principal, Mrs Ashlee and my Assistant Principal, Mr Haisell lead the evening. They are both former Brockhill students, and Sixth Form here holds a special place in their hearts.

We also welcomed former student, Holly Herwin back to Brockhill. She spoke movingly about her time in Sixth Form and how it was cut short by the pandemic. Holly is now a primary school teacher and is already making a brilliant contribution as an educator in Kent.

From the week beginning Monday, November 24th we will be running weekly Meet the SENDCO sessions on Mondays during the morning. If you have any questions or concerns about SEND provision and how it relates to your child, you will be able to make an appointment to meet a member of our SEND team. If you would like to take this opportunity, please email send@brockhill.kent.sch.uk by the end of Thursday of the previous week, so we can get back to you with a suitable time. This is a new initiative for us, so please bear with us if demand is high.

Today, students have undertaken Children in Need fundraising activities in their Academy Tutor Groups over period 5 and lunchtime. We will of course let you know how much they have raised next week. We thank them all for their engagement and support of each other.

Please encourage your daughter or son to attend a Club Activity at least once a week. Please see Lunchtime Clubs listed on our website.

Again today, we are sending simple SMS messages to parents if a student has not submitted homework, even after a deadline extension. Our homework durations aide memoir to teachers, sets out expectations for homework in each subject. In Examination Year Groups though, students who do not submit homework assignments will simply perform less well in Public Examinations. Your support is vital here.

If any of you are completing or have completed a degree and are thinking about entering teaching, we train a large number of teachers each year. If this is a path you might be interested in pursuing then please do get in touch with Mr Travers via office@brockhill.kent.sch.uk

As of 11.30 am this morning, we had sent 2903 Excellent Effort points to parents in recognition of their daughter or son’s hard work. We wish to recognise every student, so please encourage your daughter or son to submit their personal best class and homework assignments.

Have a peaceful weekend.

Yours sincerely

Charles Joseph
