Letter to Parents 11th March

March 11th 2022

Dear Parents / Guardians

We have ended this week with more work on relaxation techniques in our Family Friday Daily Tutor session. We view this time devoted to fostering student well-being as a vital part of our week in school. Please take a moment to look at the signposting leaflets below, which point to resources and support in respect of on and off-line safeguarding and mental health.

Signposting for Students

As we prepare students in all Year Groups for the Public Examinations they will take at the end of Years 11 & 13, we are determined for all practice sessions to be confidence building as well as positive and productive for students. The tasks students undertake are often very brief, particularly lower down the school, and increase in duration and complexity through each school year.

2 approaches we use to practise for examinations are:

  1. Walking Talking Mock Examinations - where the teacher talks students through the exam questions in real time with students able to ask questions to the teacher as they go.
  2. Pre-public Examinations – where the students sit in silence and write their responses to questions as they would in the Public Examination.    Please encourage your daughter or son to sign up and attend at least 1 lunchtime club per week: Lunchtime Clubs 2021 / 2022

and to choose and read a book for pleasure for at least 20 minutes a day.

Digital Library spring Term

Since we returned to school on Tuesday, February 22nd we have had 62 students and 3 members of staff test positive for COVID-19 – IE 29 more students (12 in Year 9) and 1 more member of staff since March 4th. Many have been asymptomatic and identified by in school or home testing. Numbers are still significant, and we remain cautious. We continue to support and encourage students to wear face coverings in class and have reminded them that they still need to wear them on school transport for the moment.

A number of sporting activities and trips in the local area are now taking place, and we are beginning to formulate plans to take students further afield in the summer term, if we judge it prudent to do so at that time.

Thank you for your support of us and the students this week.

Yours Sincerely,
