Letter to parents 9th June

June 9th 2020

Dear Parents

Thank you for your support with Home School today. Teachers reported very positively on Year 11 yesterday as they started their pre A level work.

Today, we are providing you with our Digital Library for this half-term with links to some really interesting and gripping new recommended titles for students in each year group to read.  Reading is so very important and we ask that you encourage your children to undertake at least 20 minutes of reading each day. Reading can really drop off once students enter secondary school and we were placing increased emphasis on reading prior to the current situation arising.

As of Thursday, we will also be commencing Careers’ Education sessions in the Google Classroom. This means we will now offer a Tutor Group Activity daily:

Monday:         Literacy
Tuesday:         Numeracy
Wednesday:   PSHE
Thursday:       Careers
Friday:            Quiz

We are continuing to step up the number of live lessons via Webex or Google Meet this week to ensure a good amount of ‘face-to-face’ contact between students and their teachers, particularly in Years 10 & 12. We are also currently considering how we may offer safe socially distanced parents’ evening style events during the school day and spread over several days for these Year Groups later in the term. We will contact you further in respect of this during next week.

We hope you received your weekly Guardian Summary email last Friday about work carried out by your daughter or son in Google Classroom. We and Google are aware of some isolated incidents of the Weekly Summary showing work as not submitted when in fact it has been. This is however easily checked with your daughter or son in their Google classroom. We can only apologise for this.

Please run through this latest Gov.uk Guidance on Social Distancing with your daughter or son.

Stay safe.

Yours sincerely
