Letter to Parents 16th October 2026

October 16th 2026

Dear Parents

This week, we awarded 4553 Excellent Effort points to students for submission of personal best home- and classwork assignments. Well done to the students and thank you to their families, who provide them with so much support.

This year, we are making some changes  to the assessment information we provide to you. We always appreciate your engagement around your child's progress and we want to ensure you have all you need from us to support your daughter or son.

To that end, we will be introducing some additional information to your child's assessment data. There will now be a grade for the following aspects in each subject, which will sit alongside the academic grading:

  • Effort - This will enable you to see how engaged your child is in lessons and whether they are working to their full potential.
  • Care, Courtesy and Consideration (CCC) - This will give you a picture as to how your child adheres to our school behaviour ethos in lessons.
  • Homework - This will inform you of your child's engagement in learning outside the classroom.

We will provide clear guidance as to the meaning of these grades when we issue your child’s assessment sheet later on next half-term.

We hope this new format for assessment information will be helpful to you.

This week, 81 of our Years 9 – 13  Drama students attended a performance of Agatha Christie’s The Hollow at the Marlowe Theatre The Hollow

Elsewhere, our netballers and footballers have been in action and and victorious against teams from schools in Folkestone and Ashford.  And I am just so proud of our Horticulture students, who made wreaths with members of the Royal British Legion.

Again, we welcomed visitors from the Kenward Trust to deliver their ‘Think Differently’ talk to Year 10 students. Think Differently helps young people across Kent and Medway make informed choices about alcohol, drugs and risk-taking behaviours through powerful real-life stories and lived experiences. Kenward Trust.

In November, Year 11 will sit Walking Talking Mock (teachers help) and Pre-Public practice (teachers don’t help!) examinations in the Examinations in the hall as part of their preparations for Public Examinations in the summer, and we have written separately around this.

We have also held elections for student Lead Ambassadors, who will  will lead our student council with representatives from every Academy Tutor Group and oversight from Ms Gibbs.  I look forward to their contribution to school life and particularly their development of a Charter for Kindness in support of our school values of Care, Courtesy and Consideration through Kindness.

We want to encourage all our students in Years 7 – 13 to read for pleasure for 20 minutes a day. Students who read daily develop their understanding and achieve so much more highly across their school subjects. This will show you how to set up our Digital Library App SORA

As per our calendar and by way of reminder, Parent Subject Consultation Days will take place online for Years 11 & 13 on Friday, October 23rd and Years 10 & 12 on Monday, November 2nd. Students will carry out their learning at home on line Friday, October 23rd and Monday, November 2nd. They will work on and submit assignments, which will be set in Google Classroom. No student should attend school on these days. We will then look forward to welcoming students back to on site learning at Brockhill on Tuesday, November 3rd.
