Letter to Parents 2nd October 2026

2nd October 2026

Dear Parents

Thank you for all your support of your children and of us this week. They are such a credit to you all in the way they carry out their learning and their commitment to Care, Courtesy and Consideration through Kindness. The message below has made my week from a couple from Somerset visiting our area:

While walking in Brockhill Country Park last week, we encountered your class, on a narrow path, going to gather in your sheep. We couldn’t wish to have met a more jolly and polite group of young people. You all gave us pleasure and are a credit to you and the school.
We hope at least some of the students pursue a career in animal husbandry and their polite and cheerful demeanour can help them through their lives!

As a society, we can often be quick to criticise – sometimes unkindly – and slow to acknowledge or just appreciate the efforts and contributions of others, and this is just so wonderfully refreshing. Brockhill students act as mentors to younger students, support primary school children in their schools with reading and take part in so many volunteering activities here at Brockhill and in their communities.  I am so proud of them!! Often, their kindness shows us the way – a better way!!!

Beyond the classroom this week, students have represented the school in netball and football fixtures, taken part in the Youth Council Forum at Folkestone, watched a performance of Bacchae by performers from the National Theatre . Bacchae – Nationwide Schools Tour

Again, students have had a very busy week earning 5,274 merit Excellent Effort Points this week by the end of lunchtime today. Wonderfully, 106 Year 11 students have attended after school revision sessions this week too! Well done to them!

If your child has not received recognition yet for their effort in class, please talk to them and encourage them to go ‘that extra mile’. Teachers want to recognise and reward every student.

Please ensure you can access the SIMs Parent App, and if you have any problems doing so, please contact us at office@brockhill.kent.sch.uk

Again today, we are sending simple SMS messages to parents if a student has not submitted homework, even after a deadline extension. We hope texts sent enable a dialogue at home about Homework and between school and parents, where helpful. Our homework durations aide memoir to teachers, sets out expectations for homework in each subject. In Examination Year Groups though, students who do not submit homework assignments will simply perform less well in Public Examinations. Your support is vital here.

Please encourage your daughter or son to attend a Club Activity at least once a week. They can try something new and make new friends, or even just go along to a club they already know with their existing friends. Please see Lunchtime Clubs listed on our website.

As per our calendar and by way of reminder, Parent Subject Consultation Days will take place online for Years 11 & 13 on Friday, 23rd October and Years 10 & 12 on Monday, 2nd November. Students will carry out their learning at home online Friday, 23rd October and Monday, 2nd November. They will work on and submit assignments, which will be set in Google Classroom. No student should attend school on these days. We will then look forward to welcoming students back to on-site learning at Brockhill on Tuesday, 3rd November.

Term Dates and Other Important Dates 2026 -27

98% attendance is key to success at school. The NHS offers useful guidance as to when to send a child in to school and when it is better to keep them at home. Is my child too ill for school?
