Letter to Parents 11th November

November 11th 2022

Dear Parents and students

This week, we have focused on Remembrance in assembly and then each day with an activity in Daily Tutor Time, concluding this morning with a minute’s silence at 11am and a reading from Mr Boston.

Today, students have also been planning fundraising activities for Children in Need day and in the wider community Brockhill students have taken part in a litter pick in Saltwood and helped again in Hythe with the Royal British Legion’s poppy appeal. We are proud of our students’ achievements and their generosity and appreciate their families’ support of them.

We continue our emphasis on the submission of personal best quality class and homework assignments. We are also carrying on our practice of assembling a portfolio of assessed work for every student in every subject, so grades we report to you through the year are evidence based and standardised across teaching groups and Year Groups. It is of course important students prepare properly for assessments, so they do their personal best.

We are increasing the range of subjects for which we send text messages to parents where a student has not submitted Homework, despite a deadline extension in Years 7 – 13.  More detail about our approach to Homework and recommended durations was set out in my letter of September 23rd.   From letter of September 23rd

We undertake a lot of work with students around how to stay safe online. Messaging Apps, which are encrypted present a particular risk to young people. You may find the parents’ factsheet helpful if your child uses Whatsapp. Keep your child safe on Whatsapp

Please also see the list of useful links – to adults as well as young people – on our website with contact information for a number of different organisations offering support in a wide range of situations. Support for Young People and their Parents

We have received an initial flyer from Kent County Council about Christmas holiday activities and vouchers for eligible families. We will provide further information and vouchers, as soon as these are made available to us, we hope on November 21st, so you can book the activities you wish. Fun and food in the school holidays

Yours sincerely

Charles Joseph
