Letter to Parents 21st October

Dear Parents and Students

Thank you for your support of your child and students, all your hard work this week.

Today, we are sending out 632 commendations to students to recognise and celebrate their consistent submission of their personal best and classwork assignments.

This last week of term has been a whirlwind of activity: - variously Year 12 & 13 students have attended an Art & Photography Outreach Programme to the University of Canterbury; visited Thorpe Park on a Reward Trip and performed and run a Dance workshop for primary school students and our Young Farmers.

Our Young Farmers have held a Cake Sale to raise money towards the purchase of alpacas and Year 11 stuck to the ‘day job’ sitting  Walking talking Mock (with teacher help) and Pre-public examinations (no teacher help) in preparation for GCSE examinations.

Over the half-term holiday, we will complete the re-siting of our school library into our former staffroom. This is a far larger space, which will better meet the needs of the large number of reading groups which now run in the library as part of our English programme for all students in Years 7 – 9 as well as our constantly growing book numbers.

We currently have several hundred books on loan to students, and more and more students see the library as ‘their space’ for relaxing and reading a book. We hope all our students will read a book for pleasure for 20 minutes or more a day during the half-term holiday. Digital Library Autumn Term

As we move beyond the pandemic, we are mindful of our responsibilities to promote student well-being, and Ms Baldwin will commence her new role working as our Personal Well-being Coordinator from the beginning of next half-term. We will also be undertaking further work with students around kindness, resilience and team building. Please see The Parents' Guide to Teenage Anxiety and Stress

We have sent out parental surveys today to parents of Years Year 13 and 11 to coincide with the Subject Consultation Day and will do the same to Years 12 and 10 next Monday. Please do complete these, as we need to know what we are doing well and if you have any concerns.

Our Sixth Form Open Evening on of Tuesday, November 1st will run on site at Brockhill, so Year 11 students and their families can consider their A level courses for next year.

Yours sincerely

Charles Joseph

Principal
