Letter to parents 22nd July

July 22nd 2020

Dear Parents

Thank you so very much for all your support with Home School throughout this long period since March.

This year 2020 would have seen INSTEP our Dance Company in Residence’s 40th anniversary show. We are delighted and very proud that INSTEP has persisted for so long at Brockhill. During the 40 years INSTEP has touched and transformed the lives of so many of our boys and girls. We look forward to INSTEP resuming full activities at Brockhill when it is safe to do so but in the meantime here is just a little of what we have been missing:

Over the summer holiday we very much hope all students will read at least 2 titles from our Digital Library Summer Holiday reading list. The titles have been chosen as they are engaging and interesting. We advocate at least 20 minutes’ reading a day as reading develops student understanding  across all their curriculum subjects.

We are providing Work Packs in each subject for students to complete over the summer holiday. These are set out in a weekly format, so students can easily see what tasks they need to complete in a given week. We are also providing a simple Summer Checklist, so parents and students can tick off each subject, as they complete the assignments weekly. Teachers have worked hard to make these assignments as engaging as possible with use of video clips and range of really interesting resources.

We want all our student in all Year Groups to perform to the very best of their ability when they resume in September. Maintaining good and regular study habits over the summer holiday will support them to do this. However, we fully understand that at this distance in time parents will know better than we what is appropriate for their child.

Please see our documents:

When students return we will acknowledge all the work they undertake over the summer holiday.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming the students back in September. They should attend in full school uniform at 8.20am from the day and date shown below, or for Sixth Formers, smart office attire as per the dress code:

Wednesday, September 2nd

Year 7

Monday, September 7th

Year 7 & Year 12

Tuesday, September 8th

Whole School

We understand that all school buses will run as normal from September. Stagecoach have not yet confirmed, but we are very confident they will. However, all the bus companies haveconfirmed they will be insisting on students wearing face coverings in order to get on the bus in the morning and evening.

We will contact you with any further updates to our planning or with any information we receive about school transport at the end of August. Our current planning was issued to you yesterday and here it is again.
