Year 9 Information Technology & European Computer Driving Licence

Year 9 Information Technology & European Computer Driving Licence

July 2017

Dear Parents

As part of the Government's curriculum reform there have been significant changes to the grading of GCSEs and to subjects, which have been accepted on to the lists of accredited new specification GCSEs for examination in Year 11.

In the case of Information Technology we have been aware of this for some time and will complete our teaching of Information Technology in our core to Year 9 students at the end of this term.

Students in Year 9 have been taught ECDL this year, which is the rather oddly named European Computer Driving Licence - this is in fact an Information Technology GCSE equivalent. This qualification is recognised by employers and provides students with the Information Technology skills most frequently used in a work based environment.

Over a period of three days before the end of term students will sit various modules of the ECDL and they will complete those remaining modules in the final week of the half term before the October holiday to give them the full ECDL GCSE equivalent qualification and set them on the road to GCSE success.

We will provide students with further information relating to the ECDL modular examinations during the coming week. Please do contact me if you have any query.

Yours sincerely

Charles Joseph
Senior Vice Principal
