Letter to parents 1st June

June 1st 2020

Dear Parents

Welcome to the this second half of summer term and thank you for your support with Home School today..

We will be shifting our provision from this week to include a greater measure of live lessons delivered over Webex alongside our provision of work for each lesson through Google Classroom, so allowing for an increase in ‘face-to-face contact’ for students with their teachers.

At present, there is no indication from Government in respect of when secondary schools will reopen fully, despite the gradual lifting of lockdown arrangements. Above all, we wish for our students to remain safe and follow Gov.UK Guidance around social distancing at all times.

It is also vital that students maintain regular study routines, so that they can reintegrate to learning in school as easily as possible when school does resume.  To support parents with the supervision of children’s learning, we activated the Google Classroom Guardian feature last half-term, so that parents receive a weekly summary of work set. If you have not yet set this up it is the work of a moment: you will have received an invitation in your inbox on May 13th. Over this half-term we will further develop our curriculum provision and notify you when we do.

It is currently suggested that Year 10 and Year 12 may receive some ‘face-to-face’ contact before the summer holiday but that only a small minority of students in these year groups could ever be on site at any one time after June 15th.  Clearly, this is a subject of some debate nationally, the Guidance is subject to change and we will need to await further Gov.uk Guidance before making any arrangements and contacting parents in those Year Groups. We will adhere to Guidance but not anticipate it. Guidance is published nationally to us all at the same time – we do not have advance sight of this. Just a reminder that any parent who is a Key Worker as defined by Gov.uk needing to use on site provision should mail the Brockhill Office email account by midday the previous working day, in order for us to make appropriate arrangements.

Tomorrow, Tuesday’s Tutor Activity is Numeracy. Please carry out the activities as a family if you get the opportunity! We consider the daily Tutor time Activities a vital part of students’ learning and were able to send in excess of 200 Special Commendations to students and their parents just before half-term. We will be looking to recognize more students’ achievements during the coming weeks.

We are again providing you with the 2 Guides to help students with webex:

  1. A video guide  For Students – How to log into a webex lesson

  1. Accessing a Meeting through Webex with photo instructions

Please stay safe.

Yours sincerely
